I took this photo during late November of last year. Seen here is a long exposure at sunset, on the Shenandoah River under the US 340 bridge in Harper’s Ferry, Virginia.
I used my B&W 1000x Neutral Density filter for this photo. This filter lets 1/1000 of the light in the scene into the camera lens, making the exposure 1000x longer. This allowed me to capture water and cloud motion in this image. To create this image, I captured an 85 second exposure for the water, and a 50 second exposure for the sky. I blended these two exposures using layer masks in Photoshop.
Honestly, this sunset was not very interesting or incredible at all. However, using the 1000x ND filter, I was able to create an interesting image that is one of my most popular images at this moment.
